Winter temperatures vary widely across India, from mild days to cold mornings and evenings. Rather than relying on one very thick outfit, choose layers that can be adjusted to the environment and your baby's comfort.
Use layers you can adjust
A comfortable base layer plus an additional layer can be easier to manage than one bulky garment. Check the weather and indoor temperature, and remove a layer if your baby becomes too warm.
Check your baby's comfort
Feel the chest or back of the neck to help assess whether your baby seems too warm or cool; hands and feet can feel cooler than the body. Watch for sweating, flushed skin or unusual discomfort and respond to the environment.
Take care with car seats
Bulky coats and snowsuits can interfere with a car-seat harness fit. Follow the car-seat manufacturer's guidance and use thin layers under the harness, adding a blanket over the secured harness if appropriate.
Choose practical garments
Look for comfortable neck openings, secure closures and care labels. For sleep, follow trusted safe-sleep guidance and avoid loose blankets or accessories that could cover the face.
